Vancouver 29th Sept 2006
Had a great day yesterday, Graham and Jackie took me up to Burnaby Mountain. The weather was lovely and sunny but unfortunately the city was shrouded in smog. The temp. was about 23degs., the views were still superb of the harbour inlet and the Islands though.
We then went to have a look at the Simon Fraser Univercity. A huge Univercity further up on top of Burnaby Mountain where Graham worked in his working years. He is now retired. As the views up there are so beautiful the land is very expensive, so once again the very wealthy have new High Rise Apartments. And more are being built ! Graham and Jackie wanted to show me the part of the harbour and coast that I had been looking at from Burnaby Mountain so we once again crossed The Iron Workers Memorial Bridge and travelled along the Harbour East to Kates Park and then to Deep Cove where we stopped for Coffee and Donuts. We didn't get an invitation to dine at the very exclusive Yacht Club at Deep Cove so we travelled home for a Stir Fry "Supper".
Lorrie (Who's real name is Leslie) and Earle arrived a bit later for "Ooie-gooie" sweets. I wondered what an earth Jackie was talking about when she told me we where having Ooie-gooie sweets !! I found out though when all types of sweet cakes and cream puffs where placed on the table.!!!!Needless to say, we all feasted on them and any weight I may have lost has now gone back on ! We had a great night with Jackie having us in howls of laughter about her exploits as a School Teacher in Queen Charlotte. I also learned a new language. Jackie told me it is the third official Language of Canada and it is called, "Newfienese". An example of it goes something like this, "Stay where your at till I come where your to". Translating to " Stay there till I get there"!I feel sure Brad knows what I'm talking about.
I also had another surprise in store ! The telephone rang, and when Jackie said " Yes, Thelma's here" and passed me the phone I was thinking that some-one from home was ringing me, but no such thing !! It was a "Mountie".I had been complaining that I hadn't seen a Canadian Mountie in a Red Jacket since I had been here and was now thinking they just didn't exist. So Jackie had sent an e-mail to one of her Mountie friends, 2000 Miles away in Regina,Saskatchewan, and said, " Ring the old girl and make her happy, give her a kiss on the cheek so she can tell everyone she's been kissed by a Mountie ". And this he did !What a good sport ?? Made my day!!I have now been kissed by a Mountie!!
Today is wet and miserable, I don't think we will be going far, but I never know what Graham and Jackie have in store for me. Tomorrow is my last day here, I leave on Monday morning. A sad day, I have enjoyed my stay in Vancouver so much. I will never forget it.
